Renditions: Reconsidering tensions between artificiality and authenticity’ project8 John R. Neeson’s @johnrneeson lifelong project has been an investigation of ‘still life’ painting. The artist’s keen observational skill has rendered a shallow pictorial space that demonstrates a process where the objects portrayed oscillate within and across the composition at several stages in their evolution to verisimilitude. The ‘negative’ space behind and above the replicated objects is rendered in the exact colour of the wall of the gallery, effectively dissolving the ‘picture plane’.
